This video is a short TV interview recorded around the boxing course I ran in November 2024. It is a little different from my usual technique lessons. Rather than drilling a single punch or a piece of footwork, it is a conversation about boxing and coaching.

If you are interested in how I approach teaching boxing, or you are thinking about coming on a course yourself, this page gives you some background on why courses like this matter to me.

Why Boxing Courses Matter

As National Boxing Coach for Cambodia, a big part of my work is coaching. Good boxing does not come from watching fights or copying highlight clips. It comes from learning the fundamentals properly, from someone who can see what you are doing and correct it.

A course gives people that structure. Instead of picking up random tips, they work through the basics in a sensible order:

  • Stance, balance and guard
  • Footwork and angles
  • The basic punches and how they connect
  • Defence, including head movement
  • How to train on the bag, pads and in sparring

Get those right and everything else becomes easier.

How I Approach Coaching

My approach is simple and practical. I teach principles, not just techniques, because a principle improves everything you do. I want people to understand why something works, not just copy a movement.

I also believe in safety and control. Boxing is a contact sport, so good coaching means good habits, proper gear and training partners who look after each other. That is how people improve for years instead of getting hurt in their first few months.

Who Should Learn To Box

Boxing is not just for people who want to compete. It improves fitness, coordination, confidence and self-defence ability. Martial artists from other styles also gain a lot from it, because the footwork, head movement and punching mechanics carry over into almost everything.

Whatever your age or background, the fundamentals are the same, and they can be learned.
