Footwork is essential in almost any physical endeavor except maybe arm wrestling.
I love the pendulum from boxing. Fan of Bruce Lee and he was a fan of Muhammad Ali (so am I) and Ali had awesome footwork.
Anyway, in my martial arts training I was introduced to the Filipino martial arts and their footwork. Their 45-degree movement back-and-forth are essential to getting out of the way. Moving forward to a “safe zone” is counter-intuitive but I would say I learned that by practicing Filipino footwork drills..
Maybe not “learned” it because I was taught to move forward out of the way before that but the drills “allowed” me to “do” it.
Thanks for sharing that drill.
